Okanogan County Electric Co-Op has started
up a Conservation Committee. The committee is comprised of
conservation minded members, employees, and OCEC's General
Manager Ray Ellis. Since April the Committee has been
meeting on a regular basis to discuss such things as Water
heaters, home insulation, smart building, demand controllers,
solar, and many other related topics. The first meetings
were geared more for educating the members about the grid, and
forming their mission. Expect regular updates via our
website, and other media outlets in the near future to discuss
the Conservation Committees programs and research.
Water heaters are typically the second
largest KWH user in ones home, behind heating. The
committee has made an online spreadsheet to help members
understand the complexities of choosing a new water
heater. By clicking the Water Heater Link above you can
read about choosing the smartest type for your home.
Ranging from the standard resistive, tank type that most of us
have up to heat pumps, and on-demand water heaters. Also,
by following the link above you can view, or evaluate your own
water heater by filling out our evaluation form.
