WATER HEATER TIMERS WHY INSTALL A WATER HEATER TIMER? The US Department of Energy estimates a 12% to 26% reduction in water heating cost with the appropriate use of a timer. You can reduce the kilowatt hours (kWh) portion of your bill by using a water heater timer so that it is only heating water when you really need it. An added benefit from using a timer MAY be a reduction in the demand portion (kW) of your bill. Please discuss your situation with OCEC Member Services staff to see if this might apply to your home.
